ENGINE HISTORY

. The first simple steam engine was invented by the Greek scientist Heron in the 1st century, but it was essentially a toy.

. In 1679 French physicist Denis Papen developed the principles of steam machine operation.

. In 1712, English engineer Thomas Severy built the first steam engine. It was a specialized steam machine used for pumping water out of shafts.
