ARPANET
. ARPANET (Advanced Research Projects Agency Network) was the first packet-switched computer network developed in the 1960s by the US Department of Defense's ARPA agency. It was the forerunner of the global internet. ARPANET was based on packet switching developed by Lawrence Roberts. At that time, data transmission was channel-based, with a separate channel being handed over for a communication session. In the case of packet switching, the data to be transmitted was fragmented and several data transmissions could be performed at the same time.
