COMPACT DISC
. Compact disc (CD) is a round flat polycarbonate disk (optical disc) used to store digital data. Information from CDs is read by laser beam. The CD was invented in 1979 to store music and other sounds, also known as audio CDs. Sounds from an audio CD can be played back using the CD player. Nowadays, CDs are widely used in computer technology for data storage, although the importance of CDs is diminishing with the introduction of more advanced data storage technologies (such as flash memory, etc.).
