COPPER

. Copper is a chemical element with the symbol Cu (Latin: cuprum) and atomic number 29. Copper is rarely found in nature in free form, but most of the copper is derived from sulphide and oxide ores. Copper is a red-brown metal with very good electrical and thermal conductivity. Copper is easily alloyed with other metals. The most common alloys are bronze and brass. Copper in the joints may be monovalent or divalent. Copper is a fairly inert metal because the activity line is behind hydrogen. Copper ions color the flame blue-green. The anhydrous copper salts are usually white and the crystalline copper hydrates are usually either blue or green.
